Sighting in Le Rove, October 26, 2014

Bouches-du-Rhône, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France

Sighting on October 26, 2014 in Le Rove (Bouches-du-Rhône, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably an animal or natural object (bird, insect, pollen…) (class B).

What happened

At about 1:30 in the morning, a witness who was opening the gate of a house was surprised by an object moving silently from south to north. It was shaped like an upside-down "Y". During the roughly ten seconds of the sighting, the witness noticed no colour and no flashing light. The family members who were present also saw the phenomenon pass by, and then it was lost from view.

Only one account was collected, and there was no photograph. It remained fairly vague and lacked many details, although two other family members could corroborate it. According to the investigation, the phenomenon's appearance is unusual but plausible for a flock of birds flying in formation, given its shape, size, speed, trajectory and brightness. The lack of information and verification meant this explanation could not be confirmed with certainty. GEIPAN classified the case as B: a probable sighting of a flight of large migratory birds.
