Sighting in Lorient, January 3, 2010

Morbihan, Bretagne, France

Sighting on January 3, 2010 in Lorient (Morbihan, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a sky lantern (class B).

What happened

A witness was in their garden when three round lights passed right above them. They heard no sound. The lights then vanished instantly.

According to the GEIPAN, the description fits flying lanterns: three round lights at low altitude, travelling together, that seemed to disappear when their fuel burned out. The first findings of the gendarmerie investigation strongly pointed the same way. The case was classified B, meaning the sighting was probably of Thai lanterns.
