What happened

Over several days, between 16 and 18 September 1985, a number of witnesses noticed a bright point of light in the sky that stayed fixed in place. Its light showed faint shades of red, blue, yellow or green. Some of these sightings lasted as long as two hours. Staff at the Alpes de Haute-Provence observatory also confirmed the observations.

GEIPAN concluded that the witnesses had probably seen a planet or a star, in other words an astronomical phenomenon. The case was classed B (probably identified).
