Sighting in Maubec, July 2, 1993

Vaucluse, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France

Sighting on July 2, 1993 in Maubec (Vaucluse, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty (class A).

What happened

At around 10:45 p.m., two witnesses saw white luminous balls arranged so as to form two V shapes. The shapes hung motionless for a few seconds, then vanished at very high speed. The whole sighting lasted about ten seconds. The sky was clear and no sound was heard. The witnesses' spouses confirmed the observation, but no further information could be gathered.

The case had first been classified D. It was later reexamined: observations with similar characteristics, investigated and classified A in August 2009, had been identified as a formation flight of the Patrouille de France. GEIPAN therefore reclassified this case as A, attributing it likewise to a pass by the Patrouille de France.
