Sighting in Moussan, December 12, 1987

Aude, Occitanie, France

Sighting on December 12, 1987 in Moussan (Aude, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

The case began with a newspaper article published on 20 December 1987, after which the gendarmerie questioned a witness. The witness said that on 12 December 1987, while sheltering from the rain in the ruins of a house, they had come across a group of six strange-looking people and had exchanged a few words with them. The group said they came from another planet. One of them drew two signs on the ground and translated them for the witness. The six then climbed onto wheelless craft that looked like sleds. As the craft left, the witness heard a noise similar to ultrasound. Two hours later, the witness went back to the spot with their daughter and found round marks on the ground where the figures' feet had been.

During its investigation, the gendarmerie found no marks on the ground and collected no other testimony. GEIPAN considers the case very strange but weak: there was only one witness, and the alleged ground traces could not be found. Several details also make the account doubtful: the home planet, "Earth", is simply the English translation of the French word "Terre"; the figures spoke approximate French; and the description of athletes at rest does not fit with an estimated height of 1 m or 1.5 m. The case is classified C because of a lack of reliable information.
