Sighting in Moussy, September 26, 2007

Marne, Grand Est, France

Sighting on September 26, 2007 in Moussy (Marne, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty (class A).

What happened

At around 7:30 a.m., two witnesses noticed a luminous phenomenon in a cloudy sky. Toward the southeast, at what they estimated to be about 100 m above the ground, an oval shape gave off a very dense light. At first it stayed in place. From 9:15 a.m. it rose slowly and vertically, and it disappeared at around 11 a.m. The next day, one of the two witnesses saw the same shape again.

The investigation concluded that the witnesses had observed the planet Venus, which was particularly easy to see at that time of year, with a magnitude of -4.31. These astronomical details were confirmed by the September 2007 issue of the magazine Sciences et Vie. GEIPAN classified the case as A, meaning fully identified.
