Sighting in Mundolsheim, November 2009

Bas-Rhin, Grand Est, France

Sighting in November 2009 in Mundolsheim (Bas-Rhin, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty (class A).

What happened

One day in November 2009, a witness was taking a virtual tour on Google Maps. They could not give the exact date or the time of day. In the images, they noticed about ten light-colored spots and one darker spot.

The GEIPAN investigation established that these marks were photographic artifacts, meaning flaws that show up in a picture. Such flaws can have various causes, including smudges, dust or reflections. The witness had therefore not seen a real phenomenon in the sky but imperfections in photographs, and the case was classified A (identified).
