Sighting in Narbonne, August 8, 2014
Aude, Occitanie, France
Sighting on August 8, 2014 in Narbonne (Aude, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a weather phenomenon (storm, lightning, cloud…) (class B).
What happened
Around midnight, during a thunderstorm, a witness noticed a glow in the clouds. It was a blue-white point of light that went out and then reappeared a few metres further along, still within the clouds. The sky was heavily clouded and stormy, and the witness described at least one lightning flash.
According to GEIPAN, points of light seen in such a sky most likely correspond to ball lightning. The witness had mentioned a video, but GEIPAN never received it and so could not confirm the hypothesis, which it still considers highly probable. The case was classified B: probably identified, ball lightning.
