Sighting in Narbonne, August 21, 2015

Aude, Occitanie, France

Sighting on August 21, 2015 in Narbonne (Aude, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably an animal or natural object (bird, insect, pollen…) (class B).

What happened

At 11:13 pm, the witness was by the sea when movement in the sky caught their eye. They saw three white, star-shaped luminous forms arranged in an isosceles triangle. The whole formation moved in a straight line and made no noise. The witness looked away to call another person and never found the phenomenon in the sky again. The sighting lasted about 7 seconds. Only one account was collected.

GEIPAN considered the case to be of moderate strangeness but sufficient consistency. It may be a misidentification of a group of white birds flying together and lit by a nearby light source. The proximity of the sea and the illuminated bollard the witness mentioned fit this idea. The hypothesis remains fragile, however: it cannot be checked and there are no other witnesses. The very short duration of the sighting also limits the precision of the data. The case is classified B (probably identified), with white birds lit by urban lighting as the possible explanation.
