Sighting in Pas-de-Calais, July 17, 1990

Hauts-de-France, France

Sighting on July 17, 1990, exact location not given (département: Pas-de-Calais, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably an aircraft (plane, helicopter…) (class B).

What happened

During the night of 17 to 18 July 1990, many witnesses, including a gendarmerie patrol, saw as many as 13 objects moving without making any noise and showing flashing lights. One of the witnesses compared the shape of one of them to that of a kite.

The investigation concluded that this was very probably a case of mistaking aircraft for unknown objects. It linked the sightings to the start, on that same day, of the young pilots' air tour of France. The case was classified B, meaning probably identified.
