Sighting in Pau, November 16, 2013

Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

Sighting on November 16, 2013 in Pau (Pyrénées-Atlantiques, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was a light from the ground (searchlight, laser, vehicle…) (class A).

What happened

On a Saturday evening, at around 11:35 pm, a witness noticed a motionless light in an overcast sky above a stadium. It was still visible after the stadium lights had gone out. The witness was looking toward Jurançon. They thought of a laser but could not tell where it was coming from.

The investigation established that an electronic culture festival was taking place that night, including a green laser installation on a hillside at Gelos, south of Pau. The event's programme confirms this. GEIPAN therefore classed the case as A: the witness had observed a laser show.
