Sighting in Perpignan, February 2, 2015

Pyrénées-Orientales, Occitanie, France

Sighting on February 2, 2015 in Perpignan (Pyrénées-Orientales, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

At around one in the morning, a witness standing in the courtyard of their home watched an orange-red ball in the sky for three minutes. They thought it was an aircraft. At 1:40 a.m., above the rooftops of neighbouring buildings, they saw a very large black craft flying very low with all its lights off. The front was rounded and triangular in shape, with rectangular portholes. The craft moved slowly toward the witness, and a large orange-red ball, like a position light, could be seen under its base. It then stopped, gave off a thick fog, and disappeared by moving backward. No sound was heard.

Around 1:55 a.m., for one or two minutes, the witness saw a large, very bright white star that suddenly shot off at very high speed and vanished. They thought it was the craft seen earlier. Only one account was collected, along with a photograph of the observation site.

Afterwards, the witness said they kept seeing phenomena in the sky, by day and by night, so GEIPAN sent a local investigator. During the visit, on an evening in September, the sky was heavily overcast and the investigator saw nothing, yet over 25 minutes the witness commented on the passage of 31 UFOs, white points that passed by, hid or stopped. People the witness had tried to show them to could not see them either. The witness explained that they had received synthetic lens implants shortly after the February sighting, having been almost blind despite wearing glasses, and that since then they had seen "armadas" of UFOs every night.

The investigation concluded that both the February sighting and the later ones resulted from eye problems. The witness seemed too focused on UFOs to consider a vision problem. GEIPAN classified the case as B: the witness's vision was very probably impaired.
