Sighting in Plémet, June 4, 1978

Côtes-d'Armor, Bretagne, France

Sighting on June 4, 1978 in Plémet (Côtes-d'Armor, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

In the evening, between 8 and 10 p.m., many people watched a very bright, spherical object go by. It travelled from east to west, swaying as it moved. At times a darker mass could be made out beneath it.

The investigation concluded that the witnesses most likely saw a weather balloon strongly lit by the sun, together with the meteorological probe hanging below it. The weather centres at Rennes and Guipavas regularly launch this type of device in the area. GEIPAN classified the case as B: probable observation of a weather balloon.
