Sighting in Ploemeur, July 22, 1985

Morbihan, Bretagne, France

Sighting on July 22, 1985 in Ploemeur (Morbihan, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At around 2:30 p.m., a driver travelling with passengers was surprised to see the front of an aircraft-like fuselage appear very low and moving very slowly. Behind a window were two figures. The driver stopped the vehicle and leaned over to get a better look, but everything had already vanished. No other witness was found.

The account only reached GEIPAN in March 2015, nearly thirty years after the events. As it does with cases of this kind, GEIPAN submitted it to a university cognitive psychology laboratory to assess how much of it might be false memory. According to the laboratory, the strangest elements of the account, including the two figures, are suspected of being false memories. The witness nonetheless most likely saw an unusual flying object, such as a large solar balloon or a low-flying aircraft.

Because the testimony was affected by false memories and could not be corroborated, GEIPAN classified the case as C, for lack of reliable information.
