Sighting in Plouha, August 22, 2016
Côtes-d'Armor, Bretagne, France
Sighting on August 22, 2016 in Plouha (Côtes-d'Armor, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was an aircraft (plane, helicopter…) (class A).
What happened
In the middle of the afternoon, a technician working outdoors on assignment looked up at the sky to the north and noticed a dark-colored object that reflected sunlight from time to time. Its shape reminded the witness of a paraglider wing, but nothing hung beneath it. The witness watched it move about, took a photo, then tried to follow it by car. The object drifted slowly toward the northeast, turning slightly on itself. The witness eventually lost sight of it. No other testimony was reported.
The witness gave the investigator the photo. The object is too far away to be seen in it, but the image confirms the time of the sighting: 3:28 p.m. GEIPAN considered the witness reliable. The sighting was not very strange, but the witness still wanted to report it in order to understand what they had seen. The investigation concluded that it was very probably a paraglider from the local paragliding club, as the club's president indicated. The case is consistent (0.7) and has a low strangeness rating (0.25). It was classified A: probable paraglider in flight.
