Sighting in Port Leucate, September 18, 2006

Aude, Occitanie, France

Sighting on September 18, 2006 in Port Leucate (Aude, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

Two witnesses were fishing from the beach when they noticed two glowing balls, orange-yellow in colour and slightly translucent. Both objects moved at high speed. They headed north and vanished into the haze. The time, 22:33, comes from one of the witnesses' phones.

No one else reported the phenomenon. The investigation was only opened in 2008, long after the event, and it produced no firm evidence: radar records, for instance, are kept for only two months and could not be consulted. The initial inquiries were inconclusive.

GEIPAN described the case as the observation of two luminous balls moving rapidly. Because the data were insufficient, it was classified C.
