Sighting in Poussan, June 7, 2013

Hérault, Occitanie, France

Sighting on June 7, 2013 in Poussan (Hérault, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was a reflection or photographic artefact (class A).

What happened

At one in the morning, a witness noticed a fixed white light in the sky. It looked like a white point with a horizontal streak of light, and below it a curved, pinkish shape. The witness heard no particular noise. The following night, they saw exactly the same thing.

The GEIPAN sent someone to survey the surroundings of the village at night in search of a fixed light source, but this turned up nothing. In the end, it was the witness who, together with a neighbour, took a closer look at the phenomenon and realised it was the reflection of a street light on an antenna. Two photos are included in the file: one, fairly dark, roughly matches what the witness saw with the naked eye, while the other, taken with a longer exposure, reveals the source of the phenomenon. The case, which was not very strange, was classified A: fully identified.
