Sighting in Rennes, February 15, 2009

Ille-et-Vilaine, Bretagne, France

Sighting on February 15, 2009 in Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At around 8 p.m. on a Sunday evening, two people travelling by car saw a luminous orange ball in the sky. It was moving fairly quickly. The sighting lasted only a few seconds before the phenomenon disappeared.

Investigators could have linked this case to an observation made at Hautefort the same day, about thirty minutes earlier. However, the witness did not return a questionnaire, and GEIPAN had no details on which to base a conclusion. The account suggests a bolide re-entering the atmosphere, in other words a meteorite fall, but the direction of the phenomenon's path is unknown. For lack of sufficient information, the case was classified C.
