Sighting in Saint-Brieuc, November 26, 2011

Côtes-d'Armor, Bretagne, France

Sighting on November 26, 2011 in Saint-Brieuc (Côtes-d'Armor, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a sky lantern (class B).

What happened

On a Saturday evening at 9:05 p.m., a witness watched four white luminous balls move horizontally and without any sound for about five minutes.

The GEIPAN concluded that the account fits Thai lanterns well: a group of lights drifting with the wind, which blew from the southwest, and staying visible for a few minutes. The time and day of the week are also typical of this kind of festive event. One detail does not quite match: the witness described the lights as white, whereas even white lanterns tend to give off a yellow-orange glow.

The case was classified B: the sighting was probably of Thai lanterns.
