Sighting in Saint-Michel, November 15, 2009

Aisne, Hauts-de-France, France

Sighting on November 15, 2009 in Saint-Michel (Aisne, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a light from the ground (searchlight, laser, vehicle…) (class B).

What happened

Two people out walking at around 9 p.m. noticed a bluish beam of light coming from the sky, and found its movements unusual. The beam swept across the sky, undulating and oscillating, and seemed to follow the pair. It made no sound. The phenomenon lasted 35 minutes.

GEIPAN linked this case to another sighting made in a nearby commune at 8:55 p.m. the same evening. In that second case, the Hirson gendarmerie brigade had identified the phenomenon as a nightclub spotlight. Since the times coincide and the area has several places where such a projector could have been located, GEIPAN classed the case as B: a very probable confusion with a nightclub spotlight, in other words a laser light display.
