Sighting in Sausset-les-Pins, September 12, 2014

Bouches-du-Rhône, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France

Sighting on September 12, 2014 in Sausset-les-Pins (Bouches-du-Rhône, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty (class A).

What happened

At around 7:50 p.m., a witness noticed something in the sky that they could not identify. The sky was clear and the sun was setting. Looking west, the witness saw an object resembling a "rocket" that seemed almost stationary at the start of the observation. It left behind a plume like smoke, shaped like a "V". Only one account was collected.

The investigation concluded that this description clearly matches an aircraft contrail seen against the light at sunset. The case was therefore classified A, meaning identified. GEIPAN also points to an item published on its website on 4 June 2013, under the News tab, titled "Des trainées d'avion étranges" ("Strange aircraft contrails").
