Sighting in Septèmes-les-Vallons, October 11, 1992

Bouches-du-Rhône, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France

Sighting on October 11, 1992 in Septèmes-les-Vallons (Bouches-du-Rhône, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty (class A).

What happened

Between 9:30 and 10:30 in the evening, two witnesses, independent of each other, noticed a whitish oval shape moving slowly above Marseille. Both of them thought to film what they were seeing.

Inquiries carried out by two gendarmerie brigades quickly showed that the witnesses had seen an airship from a distance. The craft was based at Marignane and was flying night-time promotional flights at the time. The flight data matched the witnesses' description perfectly. GEIPAN therefore classified the case as A: an identified sighting of an airship.
