Sighting in Seysses, June 3, 2009

Haute-Garonne, Occitanie, France

Sighting on June 3, 2009 in Seysses (Haute-Garonne, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was an aircraft (plane, helicopter…) (class A).

What happened

At about 7 p.m. one evening, a witness who was a keen photographer took a picture of the sky showing the Moon and a white trail left by an aircraft. The witness could not say whether it was 3 or 4 June. They noticed nothing unusual at the time. Two days later, while looking at the photograph, they found a detail that struck them as odd and described it as "parallel bars".

The investigation showed that the witness had photographed an airliner in motion, which accounts for the look of these bars. Engine trails, by contrast, appear as features that seem to be stationary. GEIPAN classified the case as A: the photograph shows luminous trails left by an aircraft.
