What happened

A little after 7 a.m., about a dozen witnesses in two departments of south-eastern France saw a large luminous ball cross the sky at high speed. Sparks trailed behind it. The phenomenon was silent and lasted only a few seconds, after which the ball disappeared.

Based on the descriptions gathered, GEIPAN concluded that the witnesses had probably seen an atmospheric re-entry. The case was classified B (probably identified).
