Sighting in Tarascon, April 1994

Bouches-du-Rhône, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France

Sighting in April 1994 in Tarascon (Bouches-du-Rhône, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

The account was collected in December 2014 and concerns a sighting from April 1994, for which the exact day is unknown. At around 10 p.m., a witness and their friend noticed a whitish, lens-shaped glow in the sky. One of them thought it was an object. It stayed visible for more than an hour and a half, and the witness put its height at about 300 m. It seemed to move back and forth, then vanished abruptly, as if sucked up into the sky.

The investigation noted that a whitish glow low on the horizon, watched for so long, simply suggests the Moon, perhaps partly hidden by clouds and then disappearing behind one. This kind of mistake is common. Without a precise date, the hypothesis could be neither confirmed nor ruled out. The case is classified C because of the lack of precise information on the date of the event.
