Sighting in Thil, August 11, 1996

Aube, Grand Est, France

Sighting on August 11, 1996 in Thil (Aube, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

Sometime between 00:30 and 01:30 at night, a witness and their spouse noticed a circular luminous phenomenon moving slowly from right to left. They watched it for roughly 45 minutes, then went to bed while it was still visible.

The investigation found that the direction in which the phenomenon was seen matched the direction of a nightclub that used an advertising laser projector. GEIPAN therefore concluded that what the witnesses saw was most likely the effect of this projector on the clouds. The case was classified B, meaning probably identified.
