Sighting in Tournefeuille, September 27, 1993

Haute-Garonne, Occitanie, France

Sighting on September 27, 1993 in Tournefeuille (Haute-Garonne, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

The owner of a house found a regular circle about 8 metres across in their garden. Around its edge, the grass lay flat, all pointing outwards, in a band 30 cm wide. An automatic sprinkler nozzle stood at the centre of the circle.

The investigation noted that a violent storm had flooded the ground in the preceding days. The storm had also caused electrical disturbances, in particular on the fuse supplying the automatic watering system. After a quick analysis, SEPRA favoured the explanation that the nozzle had opened unexpectedly: the sprinkler would have run without pressure for some time, producing the circle that was observed. The case was classed B, probably identified.
