Sighting in Vianne, March 3, 2009

Lot-et-Garonne, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

Sighting on March 3, 2009 in Vianne (Lot-et-Garonne, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At around 8:30 p.m., four people were driving along a country road when they noticed three coloured, flashing lights in the sky, moving slowly and appearing to mark the corners of a triangular object. It flew at low altitude and eventually disappeared behind a hill. No particular noise was heard during the sighting.

Only one account was submitted. The investigation found the phenomenon not very strange, given its straight-line movement and its partial resemblance to an aircraft (flashing lights and a red light). The triangle described may simply be the smallest shape enclosing the three points of light. The report came in more than a month after the event, so civil and military radar records were no longer available. The witness did not give a precise heading for the trajectory, nor the size of the phenomenon relative to known landmarks, so its nature could not be determined. The case was classified C, for insufficient information.
