What happened

At about 5:30 a.m., two gendarmes on patrol saw a very bright, bluish sphere for a brief moment. It was moving at very high speed and left a long trail of sparks behind it.

The investigation found no other witnesses. GEIPAN nonetheless considered that the description matched an atmospheric re-entry, whether of natural or artificial origin. The case was classified B (probably identified): the witnesses most likely saw an atmospheric re-entry.
