Sighting in Vitré, December 22, 2001

Ille-et-Vilaine, Bretagne, France

Sighting on December 22, 2001 in Vitré (Ille-et-Vilaine, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

At around 2:30 in the morning, a witness driving a car noticed a large triangular shape. The object was moving slowly and without a sound. The witness stopped and got out of the vehicle, then saw that the phenomenon stayed motionless above them for about ten seconds before moving off again.

Underneath the object, the witness described very bright, highly mobile lights. The front of the shape had looked to them as if it were made of plexiglas.

The GEIPAN classified the case as B (probably identified). The investigation concluded it was the observation of a large triangular shape with very bright headlights, and found that the witness's personality made this account hard to regard as credible.

Account rewritten by SkyUnknown from the investigation report published by GEIPAN (CNES). The original text and case documents are on the official record.
