Sighting in Narbonne, June 28, 2009

Aude, Occitanie, France

Sighting on June 28, 2009 in Narbonne (Aude, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At about 4:30 in the morning, a group of campers were intrigued by luminous phenomena moving across the sky. Only one account was sent to the GEIPAN. According to the description, the objects changed speed and then vanished suddenly.

The movements described are hard to match with the usual sources of misidentification. Only nightclub spotlights come close, but these are mostly noticed under overcast skies rather than clear ones, and it is unusual for them to operate for only a few tens of seconds.

The GEIPAN actively tried to get back in touch with the witness, without success, and no investigation could be carried out. The case has a high level of strangeness and would deserve a thorough investigation, but it remains weak because it rests on a single account. It was provisionally classified C (insufficient data), pending any additional information that might emerge.

Account rewritten by SkyUnknown from the investigation report published by GEIPAN (CNES). The original text and case documents are on the official record.
