Sighting in Reims, January 25, 2009

Marne, Grand Est, France

Sighting on January 25, 2009 in Reims (Marne, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was a reflection or photographic artefact (class A).

What happened

A witness reported several sightings of points of light between 23 January and 2 February 2009. Their account was based on several dozen photographs, which they supplied.

The pictures had been taken at night using a flash. None of them showed anything unusual, but most contained orbs, that is, dust particles lit up by the flash. The investigation concluded that the witness had probably exaggerated both the description and the interpretation of what they had observed.

GEIPAN classified the case as A, a fully identified phenomenon: the photographed lights were photographic artefacts.
