Sighting in Saint-Cyprien, February 11, 2009

Pyrénées-Orientales, Occitanie, France

Sighting on February 11, 2009 in Saint-Cyprien (Pyrénées-Orientales, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was the planet Venus (class A).

What happened

At around 8:20 pm, a witness noticed an especially bright star due west. Intrigued, they looked at it through binoculars, then with the zoom of their camcorder. A few days later, in a different place, the witness made a similar observation.

The GEIPAN investigation established that the witness had seen the planet Venus, which was particularly easy to see at that time of year, first with the naked eye and then with the camcorder. The case is classified A: it was an astronomical observation of Venus.
