Sighting in Villiers-Charlemagne, August 2009

Mayenne, Pays de la Loire, France

Sighting in August 2009 in Villiers-Charlemagne (Mayenne, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

A witness reported, long after the fact, something they had seen in August 2009. They could not say exactly which day it was: their message gave either the 25th or the 26th of August. They described a round, white luminous shape moving in an unusual way across the sky. They noticed no flashing and no sound. No other witness came forward about the phenomenon.

GEIPAN considered two possibilities: a helicopter scanning an area, or construction machinery in the nearby quarry, which lies to the northwest of the observation point. The lack of a precise date, the age of the sighting and its low degree of strangeness meant that no investigation could be launched. The case was classified C, for insufficient information, pending any additional evidence.
